The Moral Story The Old Farmer and the Three Sons

Once upon a time, in a quaint village surrounded by rolling hills and lush fields, there lived an old farmer named Hari. Hari had spent his entire life tending to his land, and his hard work had paid off, for his farm was the most bountiful in the region. Hari's days of toiling in the fields were coming to an end, however, as age had finally caught up with him. He had three sons—Ravi, Sohan, and Deepak—each strong and capable, but unfortunately, not very united.

As the years passed, Hari grew increasingly worried about the future of his farm. His sons constantly argued and competed against each other, each believing he was the most capable of managing the farm. Hari knew that unless his sons learned to work together, the farm would fall into ruin. He decided to teach is son a lesson they would never forget.

One crisp autumn morning, Hari called his sons together and said, "My dear sons, I am growing old and weak. I cannot manage the farm on my own anymore. It's time for you to take responsibility. But before I hand over the responsibility, I have a test for you."

The sons, eager to prove their worth, listened intently. Hari handed each of them a small bundle of sticks tied together with a piece of twine. "I want each of you to break this bundle," Hari instructed.

Ravi, the eldest, stepped forward first. He took the bundle of sticks in his strong hands and tried with all his might to break it. Despite his strength, the bundle remained intact. Next, Sohan tried. He, too, used all his power, but the sticks would not budge. Finally, Deepak gave it a go, but he met with the same result as his brothers.

The three sons looked at their father, puzzled. Hari then untied the bundles and handed each son a single stick. "Now, break the sticks one by one," he said.

The sons did as they were told, and each stick snapped easily in their hands.

Hari looked at his sons and said, "Do you see the lesson here? Alone, each stick is weak and easily broken. Together, they are strong and unbreakable. The same is true for you. If you work together, no challenge will be too great. But if you continue to fight among yourselves, you will fall apart, and so will our farm."

The sons were humbled by their father's wisdom. They realized that their bickering and competitiveness were foolish and that their father’s lesson was indeed a valuable one. From that day forward, they vowed to work together in harmony.

Under their united effort, the farm flourished more than ever before. Ravi, with his strength, handled the heavy labor and plowing. Sohan, with his keen mind, managed the finances and trading. Deepak, who had a green thumb, took care of the crops and livestock. By playing to their strengths and supporting each other, they made the farm more prosperous than it had ever been.

Their cooperation brought not just wealth but also joy and peace to their home. The villagers noticed the transformation and often remarked on how the three brothers had become a model of unity and hard work. Their father, Hari, was filled with pride and contentment, seeing his sons finally working together and thriving.

Years passed, and the farm continued to grow. Ravi, Sohan, and Deepak became well-respected leaders in the village, known for their wisdom and generosity. They never forgot the lesson their father had taught them and made sure to pass it on to their own children.

One summer evening, as the sun set over the fields of golden wheat, the three brothers sat with their father on the porch of their farmhouse. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers, and the sounds of birds returning to their nests for the night created a serene atmosphere.

Hari, now very old and frail, looked at his sons with pride shining in his eyes. "I am proud of you all," he said in a voice that had grown weak with age but still held warmth and love. "You have learned the most important lesson of all—unity. As long as you stand together, you will always be strong."

Ravi, Sohan, and Deepak nodded, their hearts full of gratitude and respect for their father. They knew that it was his wisdom and love that had shaped their lives and brought them success and happiness.

Hari passed away peacefully that night, knowing that his legacy was in good hands. His sons honored his memory by continuing to work together and helping their community. They often shared their father’s story with others, teaching the valuable lesson of unity and cooperation.

The farm remained prosperous for many generations, a testament to the power of working together and the wisdom of the old farmer, Hari. The story of the old farmer and his three sons became a cherished tale in the village, reminding everyone that true strength comes from unity and that together, they could overcome any challenge.

And so, the legacy of Hari and his lesson of unity lived on, inspiring many to work together, support one another, and build a better future for all.
