The Honest Woodcutter
Once upon a time, in a small village nestled beside a dense forest, there lived a humble woodcutter named Leo. Leo was known throughout the village for his honesty and hard work. He earned his living by cutting wood and selling it in the market.
One sunny afternoon, Leo went to the forest to chop wood. As he worked near a sparkling river, he accidentally dropped his axe into the water. The river was deep, and the axe sank quickly out of sight. Leo was heartbroken because the axe was his only tool to earn a living.
Sitting by the riverbank, Leo sighed deeply. "What will I do now? How will I provide for my family?" he thought, feeling the weight of his loss. Suddenly, there was a gentle ripple in the water, and a beautiful fairy appeared. She had shimmering wings and a kind smile.
"Why are you so sad, dear woodcutter?" asked the fairy.
Leo explained his misfortune, his voice trembling with worry. The fairy listened attentively and then said, "Do not worry. I will help you."
With a wave of her hand, the fairy dove into the river and emerged moments later holding a shining golden axe. "Is this your axe?" she asked.
Leo looked at the magnificent axe but shook his head. "No, that is not my axe. Mine was a simple, iron one."
The fairy smiled and disappeared into the water again. This time, she brought up a silver axe. "Is this your axe?" she inquired.
Leo gazed at the beautiful axe and again shook his head. "No, that is not mine either," he replied.
The fairy went underwater a third time and reappeared with Leo's old, worn iron axe. "Is this your axe?" she asked.
Leo's face lit up with joy. "Yes, that is my axe! Thank you so much!" he exclaimed.
The fairy was impressed by Leo's honesty. "You have been truthful and honest. For your honesty, I will give you all three axes—the golden axe, the silver axe, and your iron axe."
Leo was overjoyed and thanked the fairy profusely. He returned to his village with all three axes and shared the story with everyone. The villagers admired Leo's honesty and learned the value of being truthful.
From that day on, Leo continued to work hard, but now with a golden and silver axe by his side. He never forgot the fairy's kindness and always remembered that honesty is the best policy.
